Board of Trustees Elects Vice Chairman and New Trustee

New York, NY – On May 4, 2010, the Board of Trustees of Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) elected James E. Buckman, Esq., as Vice Chairman and Chairman Designate.

Buckman is currently Vice Chairman and General Counsel at York Capital Management. He is the former Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Cendant Corporation and was previously Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Cendant’s predecessor, HFS, Inc. Before joining HFS in 1992, Buckman was a Partner with Troutman, Sanders, Lockerman and Ashmore in Atlanta, where he focused on corporate financial matters. 

He has served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Days Inns of America, Inc., and as Assistant General Counsel for Gable Industries, both Atlanta companies. Buckman was also an associate at Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood in New York. After earning his undergraduate degree from Fordham University, Buckman attended Yale Law School, where he received his LLB. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1969 and to the Georgia Bar in 1974. 

Buckman served as First Lieutenant in the Connecticut Air National Guard, in the Georgia Air National Guard, and in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a member of the Cendant Corporation Board of Directors and its Executive Committee and is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Museum of the City of New York and Fordham University, and on the Board of Directors of the New York Philharmonic and the Wyndham Worldwide Corporation. 

A member of MMC’s Board since October 2005, Buckman is Chair of the Investment & Finance Committee and serves on the Executive and Trustees Committees. 


Sr. Teresita Fay, Ph.D.
 

The Board also elected Sr. Teresita Fay, Ph.D., as the newest trustee and member of the Executive Committee. Sr. Teresita is a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) with extensive experience in education and in corporate training and development. Her professional experience includes more than 25 years in teaching and educational administration, and 20 years in corporate worldwide training and development and strategic planning for Arthur Andersen & Co and its multi-national client base. 

Since her retirement from Arthur Andersen in 1999, Sr. Teresita has been working with a number of small and non-for-profit organizations, assisting them with strategic planning, communication, relationship building, and performance-management skills. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Columba Kavanagh House in Harlem. 

Sr. Teresita completed her undergraduate degree at Marymount College Tarrytown in English and philosophy; earned an M.A. from Hunter College in English, American, and World Literature; attended DePaul, Loyola, and Mundelein for certification in adult education. She obtained her Ph.D. from Purdue University in Contemporary Thought and Literature. 

Sr. Teresita will serve as co-chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and as a member of the Student Affairs Committee.

Math Department Holds The Eleventh Annual Pi-Day Contest

Every year, the Mathematics department holds a College-wide π-Day contest. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit an original sentence, paragraph, poem, or short story that uses the digits of π in order (π ≈ 3.1415926..).
