Derek C. Bellin Joins Marymount Manhattan as Vice President for College Relations and Advancement

New York, NY – Effective June 15, 2010, Derek C. Bellin will serve as Vice President for College Relations and Chief Advancement Officer at Marymount Manhattan College. The announcement was made to the College community earlier this month by President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D. 

“I am delighted to be joining the College under the leadership of President Shaver,” Bellin said. “I look forward to collaborating with faculty, students, alumni and others to build on the College’s momentum and recent success.” 

As a senior consultant at Freeman Philanthropic Services (FPS) for the last five years, Bellin has been assisting a nationwide portfolio of private and public colleges, universities and other nonprofit organizations to recruit executive leadership, assess organizational capacity, and plan and execute marketing, resource development and other campaigns. 

Prior to FPS, Bellin held a series of progressively responsible advancement leadership roles over a 20-year period, primarily at private research universities, including Case Western Reserve University, Columbia University and Stanford University. He has led teams varying in size from three to three hundred and facilitated comprehensive fund-raising campaigns that achieved goals ranging from $85 million to $2.85 billion. He has deep experience integrating brand development, marketing, advertising, communications and media relations, and government and community relations into the advancement mission. The quality of work his teams have created has been consistently recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of EducationThe Holmes Report and The Public Relations Society of America, among others. 

With his appointment, the Office of Institutional Advancement at Marymount Manhattan will become the Office of College Relations and Advancement, and the scope of the office’s mission will include alumni, government and community relations, development, corporate and foundation relations, communications, publications and College-wide branding and marketing. 

Bellin earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont.

Math Department Holds The Eleventh Annual Pi-Day Contest

Every year, the Mathematics department holds a College-wide π-Day contest. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit an original sentence, paragraph, poem, or short story that uses the digits of π in order (π ≈ 3.1415926..).
