Kesha Find the Gold at The “Rainbow Tour”

“We f**cking did it!” Kesha screamed to a sold-out crowd before beginning her show at Hammerstein Ballroom. Anyone who does not understand what she is referring to must have been living under a rock for the last few years; Kesha has gone through a lot: a stint in rehab for an eating disorder, and an ugly lawsuit between herself and ex-producer Dr. Luke. After many fan-led protests, and an intentional break from music, Dr. Luke was removed from Kesha’s record label. Soon after she released “Rainbow,” her first album in five years. “Rainbow” shot right to number one in the United States, and Kesha recently embarked on her entirely sold-out “Rainbow Tour.”

Kesha’s fans are loyal—more loyal than most; lines outside of the venue were formed eight hours before the show started. Fans were eager to see their favorite artist perform new material for the first time in five years, and Kesha seemed eager to perform it herself. While her old hits were enjoyed by all, including “Tik Tok,” “We R Who We R,” and “Timber,” new material was most certainly embraced. Eleven of the fourteen album tracks were performed, and fans knew every word, bringing Kesha to tears as over 3,000 fans sang the lyrics to the title track, “Rainbow,” back to her.

It is not hard to tell that Kesha is thankful for her fans support; she made several speeches expressing her gratefulness throughout the show. She does not take for granted the fact that her fans have stuck around, telling them, “Without you, ‘Rainbow’ would not have happened.”

For fans and Kesha alike, the entire night was quite the tearjerker event. The ultimate highlight of the show was “Praying,” the first single from the new album. Kesha’s vocals shined like they never have before, and the room was filled with the passionate emotion of the lyrics, including “I’m proud of who I am. No more monsters, I can breathe again.”

During a heartfelt moment in which Kesha performed “Godzilla,” a duet with her mother who wrote the track, her mom thanked the crowd for “being the reason my daughter is alive.”

For those who are unable to see Kesha on this sold-out tour, do not worry. It is easy to judge based on this show that Kesha will not be going anywhere in the near future; her unintentional comeback has been accepted with open arms, and she is back on top where she belongs.
