Parents Orientation Offers View Inside the MMC Learning Experience

(New York, NY) - Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) students are not the only ones gearing up for the 2010-2011 fall semester. August 27 – 29, 2010, MMC Parents will familiarize themselves with the College and learn about opportunities to stay informed and connected with their students as they earn their degrees at MMC.

Each semester, new MMC students participate in the College’s annual orientation to familiarize themselves with school policies, their academic programs and life in New York City. This year, new MMC Parents have an opportunity to learn about the College, meet President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D. and other members of the MMC administration including Carol Jackson, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and David Podell, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty.

The College will host the Parents Orientation in the Theresa Lang Theatre and a reception in The Great Hall on Friday, August 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, August 28, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; and Sunday, August 29, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

A student panel will also be available to meet with parents and answer questions about their experiences at Marymount Manhattan College.

“We want the parents to get a sense of the academic and social journey their students will begin here at the College,” Jackson said. “We want our new MMC Parents to understand that we are welcoming their student into a well-rounded and nurturing learning environment. We expect they will get some advice about the best ways to support their sons and daughters as they start their freshman year.”

Marymount Manhattan College is an urban, independent, liberal arts college. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse population by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development.
