Townhouse to Serve as New Space for Marymount Manhattan Faculty

(New York, NY) – A growing student body and an increase in the number of faculty have prompted the need for additional space at Marymount Manhattan College. The College recently purchased a townhouse located at 255 East 71st Street, a few buildings east of the College’s main entrance.

The 3,900 square foot townhouse will provide additional space for faculty, allowing space on campus to be open for student use. The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the purchase at its meeting on June 30, 2010.

Administrators, staff and members of Academic Policy Committee were instrumental in evaluating the potential of the property, directing the due diligence, and shaping the preliminary decisions about the renovation and ultimate use of the new space. Upon approval from the College’s Board of Trustees, Marymount Manhattan will be working with Architect Lori Kupfer to design and implement a complete renovation and expansion of the building in order to use it as faculty space. The College plans to occupy the space by fall 2011.

MMC has been working to find off-site space to accommodate its growth and the needs of its community. A variety of off-site properties were considered and reviewed before moving forward with the purchase of the townhouse.

Marymount Manhattan College is an urban, independent, liberal arts college. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse student body by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development.
