Board of Trustees Elects Judith L. Robinson ‘90 as the College’s Newest Trustee

(New York, NY) – On December 7, 2010, Marymount Manhattan’s Board of Trustees officially welcomed Judith L. Robinson as its newest member. Robinson, who graduated magna cum laude from the College in 1990 with a B.A. in history, was elected during the Board’s last meeting of the calendar year.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be a member of this wonderful group,” said Robinson, who will serve on the Investment & Finance and the Compensation Committees. “Marymount Manhattan has come so far in the past ten years. The future is wide open, and it’s very exciting to be part of it.”

Robinson is currently a Senior Vice President of Wells Fargo Insurance Services, Inc. With more than 30 years experience in the insurance industry, Robinson was named one the Top 100 Women Leaders in the industry by Business Insurance Magazine. She received the Chartered Property & Casualty designation in 1969 and served on the Board of Insurance Brokers Association of the State of New York for more than a decade.

Robinson, who attended Marymount Manhattan as a returning student, says her professors offered a rewarding learning experience.

“Professors like Dr. Anne Marie Keyes were instrumental in helping me adapt to what was needed to successfully do research, come up with clear ideas and write papers that expressed those points of view,” she recalled. “Some of my favorite memories were the courses I took abroad – London Theatre with Professor Bill Bordeau and fascinating trips to Russia, Hungary and [former] Czechoslovakia with Professor Tibor Farkas. It was a challenge to run a business, go to college and have a family life, but I enjoyed every minute of it.”

After graduating from Marymount Manhattan, Robinson completed the Harvard Business School Owner/President Management Program in 1999. Robinson was President and CEO of H & R Phillips, Inc., one of the largest women-owned insurance brokerages. In December 2001, H & R Phillips was sold to Wells Fargo Insurance Services, Inc., and merged into its New York office, where Robinson was Managing Director from 2002 to 2006.

Robinson was a Director of the New York Chapter of the Society of Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriters, as well as a Director and Vice President of the Financial Women’s Association of New York. She was on the advisory councils of various insurance companies and now serves on the Business Advisory Council of YAI (The National Institute for People with Disabilities) and the Board of Directors of its subsidiary, The Corporate Source.

Marymount Manhattan College is an urban, independent, liberal arts college. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse student body by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development.
