2012 Senior Marshals Top Fundraising Goal and Enrich School Spirit

New York, N.Y.– During the 2011-2012 academic year, Marymount Manhattan College’s Senior Marshals, a select group of graduating seniors who are responsible for planning senior events and programs and leading the charge in fundraising for the Senior Class Gift, have made an especially positive impression on the way students view fundraising and giving back to their institution. Together with the help of the Office of Institutional Advancement, they raised $2,624.85, the largest amount ever contributed to the Senior Class Gift during an academic year.

The Senior Marshals began in the fall with a 75-Cent Drive in recognition of MMC’s 75th anniversary during Apple Fest, and later a Holiday-Gram sale to spread some cheer prior to the winter holiday break. The spring semester saw an array of new fundraising events, including a Senior Week Raffle, a Cherish with Change bake sale, a mailing to all MMC parents to support their students by purchasing a final exam care package, and a raffle at the College’s annual Strawberry Fest.

“I am so proud of this year’s Senior Marshals who worked hard to engage their fellow students in fundraising for the Senior Class Gift,” Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Carol Jackson, Ph.D., said. “They have topped their peers from years past many times over and helped create a wonderful spirit among seniors.”

“I think this year’s group of Senior Marshals has been really fantastic,” said Faith “Liz” Ball ’12, a psychology major, Senior Marshal Chair, and the Student Government Association’s Senator for Senior Issues. “We all get along so well and everyone is so wonderful about contributing to our goals. I’m amazed with how much money we’ve been able to raise. I think this is a testament to the creative fundraising ideas this year’s members have generated and brought to life.”

In addition to Ball, the Senior Marshals also include psychology major Tabinda Abro ’12, communication arts major Cecilia Perez Homar ’12, art photography and philosophy and religious studies major Stephanie A. Makowski ’12, communication arts major Carly M. Schneider ’12, political science major John Thomas ’12, business major Gabrielle Wright ’12, and acting major Jessica M. Zambrotta ’12.

Marymount Manhattan College is an urban, independent, liberal arts college. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse student body by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development.
