#NotAskingForIt Video Spreads Awareness at MMC on Sexual Assault

Students in Advocates for Wellness Education (AWE), led by senior psychology major Carol Wagner, created the #NotAskingForIt video to spread awareness at Marymount Manhattan College that no one is ever “asking” to be sexually assaulted. The video is intended to show support for survivors of sexual assault and create a campus culture that ends victim blaming.

The video was directed, shot and edited by junior communications arts major Autumn Swope.  Students who danced in the video are members of AWE and volunteers from the MMC community.

The #NotAskingForIt project was begun at Wesleyan University last year in response to the high rate of college students who are the victims of sexual misconduct. Students at colleges and universities across the country have made their own versions of the video.

The video project and AWE are sponsored by the Counseling and Wellness Center. If you or anyone you know has been sexually assaulted, please let someone at the College know about it. Visit here for resources and information.
