International Studies Department Will Welcome Dr. Kira Jumet to MMC this Fall

The Department of International Studies will welcome Dr. Kira Jumet to the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences as a one-year professor, beginning this fall semester.

Dr. Jumet received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Rutgers University after earning her Masters in Middle East Studies from The American University in Cairo, and her A.B. in International Studies and Middle East Studies from Brown University.

Jumet’s research interests include comparative politics, authoritarianism, social movements, and democratization, among others. In writing her dissertation, “From Revolution to Coup: Explaining Protest Mobilization in to the 2011 and 2013 Egyptian Uprisings,” she interviewed more than 170 Egyptians from Cairo and Giza to examine why individuals who are not members of political groups or organizing members of political movements, choose to engage or not engage in revolutionary protest under an authoritarian regime.

With many published works and fellowships, extensive teaching experience, and a command of four languages, Dr. Jumet brings an invaluable energy and knowledge to the MMC community and International Studies program.

Dr. Jumet will join the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences this fall semester. The Division is planning an event for September to officially welcome her to campus, and more details will be shared as the semester approaches.
