“American Idiot” Tours the World with Thomas Hettrick ’12, in Lead Role

As Thomas Hettrick, class of 2012 was performing his graduating recital he selected a few songs from the rock musical “American Idiot.” Little did he know that in the audience was a casting director who arranged an audition for the international tour of the Broadway hit, which was written by rock group Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony Award winner Michael Mayer.

“American Idiot” tells the story of three young men who leave home in search of meaning, only to struggle with addiction, depression and loneliness. The musical, mostly comprised of songs from the Green Day album “American Idiot,” also deals with apathy, mental illness and post-9/11 paranoia.

Read the Lansing State Journal interview with Mr. Hettrick, who is currently playing one of the lead characters, Tunny.

After touring Europe, there’s still plenty of dates in cities across the United States to watch this Marymount Manhattan College grad in action before the musical travels to Japan and South Korea. Learn more about the “American Idiot” tour schedule online.
