Message from the President

Marymount Manhattan College President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D. shares important information about staying healthy and the Ebola virus.

Dear Members of the College Community:

With growing national and global concern about the spread of the Ebola virus, I would like to share some important information and resources to help us all stay healthy.

Doubtless, in this Internet Age, you have discovered an abundance of information about Ebola in the news and on social media.  Some of this material is reliable and some of it not.  This information can be overwhelming and even frightening.  Thus, I would like to share with you the following official resources that will help you understand the facts about the Ebola virus and help you stay healthy:

Prevention -  http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/symptoms/index.html

Symptoms -  http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/prevention/index.html

NYC Department of Health - http://www.health.ny.gov/diseases/communicable/ebola/?utm_source=doh&utm_medium=hp-button&utm_campaign=ebola#public

The College has an excellent relationship with Mount Sinai Beth Israel the medical group that runs the Dow Zanghi Health Center on campus. They have informed us that all staff are trained in the proper protocols for dealing with the Ebola virus.

Ebola is a terrible disease; our hearts go out to the thousands suffering from it in West Africa.  We in New York City are unlikely to come in contact with an infected person, but it would be irresponsible not to make ourselves aware of the nature of the threat and the ways to prevent infection and recognize the symptoms.  As we enter the flu and cold season, it is all the more important to practice good hygiene.  You might want to get a flu shot if you haven’t already, and if you feel ill visit the Dow Zanghi Health Center or see your personal physician.

I wish you all good health and great success in your studies and your work.

Jud
