Marymount Manhattan College aims to provide students with a residential experience that encourages student learning, growth, and community development. As the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, The Office of Residence Life is adapting the current policies and procedures and re-envisioning what the academic year will be like for the residential community.
- Residence halls will be operating at full-capacity, with each room having 2-4 occupants. MMC has adapted its guidelines to operate each apartment as its own ‘household’ and therefore, we are able to bring our residence halls back to its original capacity with the safety and wellness of these communities in mind. This will be an exciting opportunity to allow students the opportunity to feel more closely connected with each other. Please consider your comfort level with the idea of sharing a bedroom with other students before applying.
- Our residence halls will be closed during the Winter Break session (December 17, 2021 - January 2, 2022). On December 17th at noon, all students will be required to vacate the residence halls. Students will have the option to return to housing for the January session at an additional cost.
Continued COVID-19 Practices for FA21
Following recommendations from New York State (NYS) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), we have adapted our housing in the following ways:
- All individuals in the residence halls will be required to wear a face covering when in public spaces, including hallways, lounges, and the lobby.
- We will be extending our move-in dates for each of our buildings to allow students and families to socially distance.
- In an abundance of caution, we must carefully limit the number of people in the residence halls to ensure the health and safety of our community members; comply with social distancing and building capacity requirements, and therefore only residential students and staff will be allowed in the residence halls until further notice. On move-in day, we will be having a socially distanced check-in; which will be the only time when outside guests are permitted in the building. - Students are expected to follow all current NYC travel advisories which may require students to quarantine in their rooms for a certain period of time, upon arrival to the residence hall. Read the guide here.
- Should any residential students become sick, the College has set aside rooms at both 55th Street and Cooper Square so that students can practice the mandatory isolation procedures while remaining supported by the College community
- Due to the high demand and limited supply of housing, room changes are unlikely to occur once the semester begins, and Marymount Manhattan College cannot guarantee an alternative space for students should there be a roommate dispute. If a resident chooses to move out, they will still be held to the Housing Contract.
- To expedite the move-in process, we recommend packing conservatively and only bringing necessary items to campus. Should conditions require a closure of campus as occurred in the spring, this would also enable a more efficient move-out process.
Marymount Manhattan College and The Office of Residence Life reserves the right to change and adapt the policies and the Housing Contract, at the College’s discretion, if it is deemed necessary to protect the safety of the community.
