United Nations Program
Full-Time Professional Immersion
MMC’s United Nations program offers qualified students in the fall semester of their senior year the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the nature, role, and functions of the United Nations through full-time professional immersion in UN programs, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) accredited to the United Nations, and Permanent Missions of Member States. Integral to this semester-long program, students engage in intensive evening coursework on the history, theory, and practice of the UN system, as well as on issues central to each year’s General Assembly.
About the UN General Assembly
The UN General Assembly opens in September with leaders of the 193 member states coming together to address the World and grapple with matters of global importance. The major Committees that comprise the General Assembly work intensively on an enormous agenda of political, economic, social and environmental issues and goals, finishing in mid-December. During this time, UN Agencies, Missions and accredited NGO’s work intensively with hundreds of gatherings around diverse issues.
Students participating in this full-time professional immersion in the United Nations are intimately involved in the activities of the General Assembly - including assignments such as reporting on the different committees of the General Assembly. In this process, students will gain valuable practical experience and further their knowledge of issues relating to international affairs, socio-economic development, the environment, women’s empowerment, and peace and security issues.
