On Wednesday, October 26th, author, activist, filmmaker, and arts consultant Dr. Simi Linton visited MMC as the 2016 Jack and Lewis Rudin Distinguished Visiting Scholar.  Following an informal meeting with students, Dr. Linton delivered her lecture, “Disability Arts & Artistry: Exploring New Cultural Territory.”  Faculty, students, staff, and community members filled The Theresa Lang Theatre to capacity to hear Dr. Linton’s outstanding presentation.

Renowned Artist Carrie Mae Weems to Deliver 2015 Rudin Lecture

Renowned artist Carrie Mae Weems will deliver the 2015 Rudin Lecture, “Constructing History: An Artist Explores the Context of Her Work,” at MMC onWednesday, October 28 at 7pm in the Theresa Lang Theatre.  Considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists, Carrie Mae Weems has investigated family relationships, cultural identity, sexism, class, political systems and the consequences of power.  Her intimate depictions of children, adults, and families in simple settings capture the ongoing struggle for racial equality, human rights, and social inclusion. In this lecture, Weems, a 2013 MacArthur Fellow, will discuss the power of her work and the context in which it is understood.
